TOKYO, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as a positive lead on Wall Street's overnight gains and solid domestic corporate earning gave way to selling after the U.S. midterm elections ended with a divided congress.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 61.95 points, or 0.28 percent, from Tuesday to end the day at 22,085.80.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 6.92 points, or 0.42 percent, to close at 1,652.43.

Oil and coal product, mining and insurance-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
